We understand some creative minds need to go bigger than where conventional markers can take them, so we’ve joined forces with MontanaCans to bring you the new “FatOne”!
It is an ideal super wide nib marker to be combined with our premium water-based inks. The high quality refillable empty Montana Acrylic Markers are designed to allow optimum flow control with their pump-valve system which allows for accurate handling and application. The transparent marker casing also makes it easy to assess remaining ink, so you never run out. This marker was originally developed for graffiti artists who often used it for “tagging” – signing their sprayed artwork, but we think this super-sized marker is also optimal for those who create their artwork on paper.
The mechanics of the FatOne is straight-forward and it can take a full 45 ml Neuland RefillOne bottle. Simply unscrew the marker top, remove the metal ball completely (as this component is not needed when using the FatOne with Neuland ink), reinsert the valve, screw the top back on, and then just pump the ink into the nib – done! The result is an exceptionally large marker full of rich color that will be perfect for those who need to work on a larger scale, or to fill in color more efficiently.

Whiteboard markers bleed heavily through paper and quickly get empty. Possibly the tip also wears off quickly. Avoid writing on whiteboards with markers for paper. They possibly smear and are difficult to remove.
The outliner has a different ink composition that can cause clogging if residual ink remains in the needle or the bulb (rinse the needle with water after each use to prevent residual ink from remaining in it).
The Outliner (color code: 010) has a special water based ink that doesn’t smear or blur when painted over with another marker. It’s particularly suitable for contours that remain clean and sharp when colored afterwards. Otherwise with the black lines of the "normal black" (color code: 100), they can quickly become blurry and dirty after subsequent coloring.

Gut mit Haken
Die Stifte sind prinzipiell sehr gut, man kann schöne, breite Hinterlegungen von Überschriften produzieren oder andere breite Streifen, wo man sie braucht.
Ein paar Haken hat das Produkt allerdings:
- Es ist nicht leicht, die richtige Menge Tinte in die Spitze zu bekommen. Man muss die Spitze durch Aufdrücken füllen, die Tinte läuft nicht von alleine nach. Dabei lässt man sehr schnell zu viel Tinte einlaufen, die dann wirklich in kleinen Bächlein das Blatt runter läuft, weil die Spitze nicht aus Filz besteht, sondern aus Schwamm. Wenn man zu wenig Tinte benutzt, hat man logischerweise weiße Streifen im Auftrag. Möglicherweise merkt man hier, dass die Stifte ursprünglich für Acrylfarben gedacht sind, nicht für relativ dünnflüssige wasserlösliche Tinte.
- Zum Einfüllen der Tinte muss man die Spitze abschrauben - die hat allerdings ein Linksgewinde. Man muss also andersrum drehen, als bei praktisch allen anderen Gewinden in Deutschland. Beim ersten Mal bin ich verzweifelt und hätte die Spitze fast kaputt gedreht.
- Die Stifte sind doch ziemlich klobig und nehmen in der Tasche viel Platz ein. Sie passen duchaus in eine Novario-Box, aber höchstens zwei von ihnen. Weniger wäre hier mehr.

This marker I use as a highlighter with the 500 and 501 yellow colours. I also have the 3cm version. These markers always attract the attention of participants and even more of competitor/colleagues: “how did you do that so fast?”
Couldn't scribe without these
I don't know how i would scribe without these large shells - really. I use them for all kinds of ink: RefillOne, Outliner, acrylic, chalk, and even dry erase (that's not for faint of heart, and not what they are designed for - go lightly). The line quality varies from thin—when using a corner—to wide, and the curves achieved with full arm gestures are unparalleled. It takes some practice to use these; beginners can build up the "wide nib skill" with the 30mm variation. I never approach a board or wall without at least one of these filled shells.
(ps - i see i wrote a review last year in 2018 - that's proof of how much i like these, as i barely write reviews!)
maximum range of line and joy
I'm not sure i could exist professionally without these shells. I use them with all inks (acrylic, dry erase, RefillOnes, chalk ink) as they provide maximum range of line and joy. Even beginners in my workshops can pick these up, with a bit of drip-awareness, and immediately make beautiful, gestural swoops.
Grandiose Marker für Überschriften und Großflächen mit kleinem Hinweis
Seit nun 8 Wochen arbeite ich mit den FatOne in 30 und 50 mm Größe und bin im Grunde voll uns ganz begeistert. Und nicht nur ich, denn auch Kolleginnen und Kollegen, sowie Teilnehmende der Seminare finden die Marker einfach nur genial! Überschriften sind mit nur einer Handbewegung kraftvoll hervorgehoben und fallen dadurch sofort ins Auge. Aber auch beim Kolorieren großer Flächen auf Flipcharts und Wandzeitungen sind die Marker eine echte Arbeitserleichterung mit erheblicher Zeitersparnis.
ABER ACHTUNG:
Es gibt leider zwei kleine Dinge, die beachtet werden wollen.
Leider machen viele Personen beim Öffnen der Kappe von großen Stiften eine Drehbewegung. Durch das Linksgewinde dieser Stifte, ist es leider schon vorgekommen, dass Personen die Stifte versehentlich und unbemerkt ganz geöffnet haben, was zu einer erblichen Sauerei führen kann. Also immer schön gerade die Klipp-Verschlüsse öffnen.
Der zweite kleine Umstand der zu beachten ist, ist der Transport und die Kompatibilität mit den Neuland-Koffern. Ich transportiere aktuell 2x 50 mm und 2x 30mm FatOne Marker in einer BigOne-Box Novario. Das ist gerade so möglich, aber kein optimaler Zustand, da die Box dadurch schon sehr an die Grenzen gelangt. Ich wünsche mir daher für die Zukunft eine neue Art der Verwahrung, welche vielleicht an die BigOne-Box II Novario angelehnt ist und damit auch den schnellen Zugriff auf die FatOne Marker ermöglicht.
FAZIT: Ich kann nur für den Kauf der FatOne Marker plädieren, damit sie dauerhaft ins Sortiment aufgenommen und weiterentwickelt werden.
